Photograph of traditional small tortora reed fishing boats called caballitos (small horses) used by local fishermen to harvest the Peruvian Atlantic coastal waters surf since pre-Hispanic times, at Pimental near Chiclayo, Peru. The fishermen use a split-cane paddle and sits astride the boat as a rider sits on a horse. The boats have been common on the North Coast of Peru for over 1,500 years and depicted in Moche ceramics and art including fineline drawing on Mochica ceramic pots.
